David “Fathead” Newman – Concrete Jungle (1978)
Sorry but my internet has been down and it put me out of commission for a bit. I will have some more posts up soon.
Here’s a ’78 Prestige release. Shared by the one and only My Jazz World before the blog had to be moved. Overall, pretty laid-back, a little funk creeps in on a version of McCoy Tyner’s “Blues For Ball” and some fusion in “Dance of the Honey Bee and the Funky Fly.” The title track is of course a Marley tune, and other covers include tracks by Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Strings arranged by William Fischer.
